A brighter, more welcoming home with a simple upgrade
At Ikonic Roofing, we install a lot of Velux windows and skylights across Dorset, and there’s one thing we hear from homeowners every single time: “I wish we’d done this sooner.”
Whether it’s a loft conversion, an extension, or just a darker room that needs a lift, natural light makes a massive difference to how a space feels.
Here’s why skylights and Velux windows are such a popular choice.
They bring in much more natural light
There’s something about sunlight pouring in from above that changes the whole feel of a room. It brightens corners, makes spaces look bigger, and creates a really comfortable atmosphere — especially in lofts or rooms that don’t get much light from regular windows.
They help with ventilation
Having a skylight that opens is a great way to let fresh air circulate. It’s especially handy in kitchens, bathrooms, and converted lofts where warm air tends to gather. A quick opening now and then keeps everything feeling fresh.
They make loft conversions feel like proper rooms
Loft spaces can easily feel cramped or dark. A Velux window transforms the whole environment, making it feel like a natural extension of the home rather than an afterthought. We’ve seen lofts go from “storage only” to favourite rooms just through better light.
They’re a stylish upgrade
Whether you’re going for a modern look or keeping things traditional, skylights blend in beautifully. They add a subtle architectural detail that feels premium without being showy.
Installed properly, they’re built to last
Velux is known for durable, solid products — and when they’re fitted correctly, they perform really well in all seasons. As always, the key is expert installation to make sure everything is sealed, secure and weather-tight.
Thinking about adding one?
